Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen: Where He Fits in Urdu Spy Fiction’s Biggest Franchise (2026)

The Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen sits inside one of the biggest names in Urdu popular fiction. But most pages about him are just bare title lists. They give zero context. Here’s where the Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen actually fits in the series’ history. Here’s how his work compares to the other writers who kept it going. And here’s what’s truly known about him.

Quick Answer: Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen

Safdar Shaheen is one of several writers who kept the Imran Series going after its creator, Ibn-e-Safi, died in 1980. He wrote at least 15 known titles. These include Research Station, Rooh Ka Gaddaar, and Dark Operation. He’s a much smaller name in the series than Mazhar Kaleem. Kaleem alone wrote over 500 Imran Series novels after Ibn-e-Safi’s death. Fans widely agree that none of the later writers matched the skill of Ibn-e-Safi’s own books. That includes Safdar Shaheen. And almost nothing about Safdar Shaheen’s own life is known online.

1. The Imran Series: Where It All Started

  • Ibn-e-Safi created the Imran Series in August 1955. This came right after his earlier hit, the Jasoosi Dunya detective series. He’d launched that one in 1952.
  • The first novel, “Khaufnaak Imarat,” appeared in October 1955. It brought in Ali Imran, the character the whole series is built around.
  • Ali Imran secretly runs a made-up spy agency, known as X-2. He plays a bumbling, comic public role. But underneath, he hides real spy work, an Oxford education, and advanced chemistry degrees.
  • Ibn-e-Safi wrote 121 Imran Series novels before he died in 1980. He also wrote 124 Jasoosi Dunya novels. That makes him one of the most active writers in Urdu popular fiction.

2. What Happened After Ibn-e-Safi Died in 1980

  • The series didn’t stop when its creator died. Other writers picked it up afterward. Each added their own novels under the same “Imran Series” name.
  • Mazhar Kaleem became the top writer to carry the series forward. He alone wrote more than 500 Imran Series novels. He used the pen name “N Safi” at first, then switched to his own name.
  • Other named writers who carried the series forward include Safdar Shaheen, MA Rahat, and Ibn-e-Kaleem. The series split across several authors. Each added a much smaller set of books than Kaleem’s.
  • A real problem showed up alongside the true, sanctioned writers. Wikipedia notes more than two hundred fake writers also cashed in on the series’ fame. Fans have criticized this for hurting the original work’s name.

3. Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen: The Complete Title List

  • Safdar Shaheen wrote at least 15 documented Imran Series titles. These include Research Station, Rooh Ka Gaddaar, Imran Ka Intiqam, Zero Land Ke Musafir, Jewish Plan, and Adam Khor Agent.
  • His list also includes Major Promod Ka Aghwa, Dark Operation, and Mission Foker Land. Round that out with Red Spot, Black Spot, Kali Daas, Last Warning, Imran No. 2, and Wild Camp.
  • This puts him in a much smaller tier than Mazhar Kaleem’s output. For instance, Kaleem published more than 500 novels, so Safdar Shaheen’s known set of books is only a small slice of that.
  • His novels still show up today on fan-run download sites. Specifically, several Urdu novel blogs and PDF archives keep his titles up, so readers can still find them, decades after they first came out.
  • He’s named directly among the series’ true, sanctioned writers. Unlike the “fake writer” problem flagged above, Safdar Shaheen is listed as one of the real, approved writers, not a copycat.

4. The Quality Debate: Originals vs Continuation Writers

  • Fans widely rate Ibn-e-Safi’s originals well above any continuation writer’s work. One detailed fan comparison read both back to back, and the reviewer said Mazhar Kaleem’s writing “stood literally nowhere” next to the originals.
  • This isn’t a knock on the later writers’ effort. However, that same reviewer still called Kaleem “a very good writer,” just one working in the shadow of a rare, unusual talent.
  • Ibn-e-Safi’s writing style is often called calm on the surface, but sharp underneath. For example, one comparison called it “gentle yet forceful,” blending sharp humor with serious crime plots in a way later writers didn’t fully match.
  • Even outside voices praised the original work directly. In fact, Agatha Christie herself is said to have called Ibn-e-Safi “the only original writer” of detective fiction to come out of the region.
  • This gap in skill matters for anyone weighing the Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen against the originals. Overall, readers who start with Ibn-e-Safi first tend to notice the difference fastest.

5. What’s Actually Documented About Safdar Shaheen

  • Almost no life detail about Safdar Shaheen shows up online. Fan blogs that list his novels don’t give his birth year, his background, or how he came to write for the series.
  • This gap is worth stating plainly, not filling in with guesses. Making up facts about a real writer would be worse than simply saying what isn’t known yet.
  • His work still shows who he is, through his novel titles and their steady availability. His life story isn’t on record. But his output as a writer is real and still read today.
  • This pattern isn’t unique to him. Several of the smaller writers who carried the series forward share the same problem. They have clear title lists, but almost no public life story.
  • Anyone digging into the Imran Series by Safdar Shaheen today hits this same wall. Title lists exist. A life story does not, at least not yet.
