BCU Term Deposit Rates: The Table Canstar Doesn’t Show You

By farwa syed

Search for BCU term deposit rates and one major comparison site claims to be updated today. Yet its own table shows dashes for almost every term under 14 months. Here are the real current BCU term deposit rates across all three BCU deposit products. There’s also a piece of context worth knowing: BCU is part of the same banking group as P&N Bank.

Quick Answer: BCU Term Deposit Rates

As of 11 May 2026, BCU’s best standard rate is up to 5.25% per annum. That’s for a 4-5 month term with interest paid at maturity, on a $1,000 minimum deposit. The 12-month term pays 5.00% at maturity. BCU also runs a separate 55+/not-for-profit product with a $5,000 minimum, plus a Farm Management Deposit paying 5.00% for a fixed 12-month term. BCU is part of P&N Group, the same mutual banking group behind P&N Bank.

Current BCU Term Deposit Rates by Term

Minimum deposit $1,000, effective 11 May 2026:

TermAt Maturity
1-2 months1.20-1.60%
3 months4.00%
4-5 monthsup to 5.25%
6-9 months3.85-4.45%
10-11 months3.55-4.00%
12 months5.00%

For terms of 12 months or longer, BCU also offers monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annual interest payments instead of a lump sum at maturity. Those options pay slightly less than the at-maturity rate. The 24-month term pays 3.35-3.45% depending on payment frequency. The 36-month term pays 3.25-3.35%.

The BCU Term Deposit Rates Table Canstar Doesn’t Show

Canstar’s BCU term deposit page carries an “Updated 20 Aug, 2026” timestamp — today, by the time this was researched. Open the actual comparison table, though, and every term from 1 to 13 months shows a dash instead of a rate. The only number that populates is 3.45% for a 2-year term. That’s nowhere near BCU’s real best rate of up to 5.25%.

If you searched for BCU’s rates and landed on that page, you might assume BCU has nothing competitive at the terms most savers want. That’s not true. The real short-to-mid-term rates, sourced directly from BCU’s own rate schedule, run considerably higher. Always cross-check a comparison table against the bank’s own published rates. A gap in the table usually means missing data, not a bad rate.

BCU Is Part of the Same Group as P&N Bank

Here’s context no comparison site currently mentions. BCU is part of P&N Group, the same mutual banking group behind P&N Bank. P&N Group is also in merger talks with Bank Australia right now, exploring a deal that would create one of the country’s larger customer-owned banks. If you’re comparing BCU against P&N Bank, know that they share a parent group. Each brand still sets and publishes its own separate term deposit rates.

BCU’s Other Term Deposit Products

Beyond the standard product, BCU runs two other term deposits worth knowing about:

  • 55+ and Not-for-Profit Term Deposit — $5,000 minimum, with fortnightly or monthly interest payment options and rates around 4.15-4.45% depending on term.
  • Farm Management Deposit — $1,000 minimum, up to $800,000 maximum across all institutions combined, a fixed 12-month term only, paying 5.00% per annum at maturity.

Check your eligibility by age, organisation type, or as a primary producer. Then compare the specialised product’s rate against the standard rate for your term before you default to the standard option.

Is BCU Good for a Term Deposit?

BCU holds a 1.5 out of 5 rating on ProductReview.com.au across 29 reviews, with 94% negative — the lowest standing of any bank in this series so far. Common complaints include poor phone accessibility and branch closures affecting long-term members. One specific, checkable pattern stands out: a reviewer said BCU adjusted its rates “3 weeks after the Reserve Bank” changed them. That suggests BCU can lag broader market rate movements.

A term deposit locks in your rate for the whole term. That lag matters less once you’ve opened the account. Still, check BCU’s current rate against competitors at the moment you open, rather than assuming it tracks the market in real time.

Deposit Protection

Every authorised deposit-taking institution in Australia offers the same baseline protection. BCU term deposits fall under the Financial Claims Scheme, which covers up to $250,000 per account holder — not a point of difference between BCU and any other bank.

FAQ: BCU Term Deposit Rates

What is BCU’s current best term deposit rate?
Up to 5.25% per annum for a 4-5 month term with interest at maturity, on the standard $1,000-minimum product, effective 11 May 2026.

Why does Canstar show no rate for most BCU terms?
Canstar’s comparison table shows dashes for terms under 14 months despite an “updated today” timestamp. The real rates, sourced from BCU’s own site, are considerably higher and are covered in full above.

Is BCU Bank part of a larger banking group?
Yes. BCU is part of P&N Group, the same mutual group behind P&N Bank, which is currently exploring a merger with Bank Australia.

Is BCU a good bank for term deposits?
The rates are competitive at the top end, but BCU holds a 1.5/5 rating on ProductReview.com.au, with common complaints about phone support and branch closures.

Does BCU offer a term deposit for people over 55?
Yes, a separate 55+/not-for-profit product with a $5,000 minimum and its own rate structure.
