How to Find Your Wi-Fi Password on Windows

If you connected to a Wi-Fi network on Windows before, the computer may have saved its credentials. You can sometimes view the password through Windows settings or network tools, provided you have legitimate access to the PC and network.

Check the Wi-Fi settings

Open Windows Settings and go to Network & internet.

Find the Wi-Fi connection and look for the properties or security information associated with the connected network.

On supported Windows versions, there may be an option to reveal the saved Wi-Fi password.

Use the network’s saved information

The password belongs to the Wi-Fi network, not to Windows itself.

If the PC has connected to the network previously, Windows may retain the necessary information for reconnecting.

You may need administrator privileges or Windows security confirmation depending on the method.

Check the router if you own it

If you manage the router, its administration interface may show the configured wireless network name and password.

The exact interface varies by manufacturer.

Do not change settings unnecessarily if other household devices depend on the current password.

Use Command Prompt when appropriate

Windows also provides command-line networking tools that can display information about saved wireless profiles.

This is useful for advanced users and troubleshooting, but it should only be used on networks you are authorized to access.

Do not use password-recovery tools against networks you do not own

Finding a password already saved on your own computer is different from attempting to break into another network.

Only retrieve or use credentials for networks you are authorized to access.

Change the password if necessary

If you own the router and believe the Wi-Fi password has been exposed, changing it may be the safer option.

After changing it, reconnect your legitimate devices with the new password.

Once you’re connected, if speeds still aren’t great, see how to make your Wi-Fi faster without buying a new router, or read why your Wi-Fi might be slow at night.

Frequently asked questions

Can Windows show a saved Wi-Fi password?

On supported configurations, yes. Windows provides ways to view credentials for networks already saved on the computer.

Do I need to be connected right now?

Some methods can work with previously saved wireless profiles, while others depend on the current connection and Windows version.

Can I find the password on the router?

If you manage the router, its settings or label may provide the current wireless credentials, depending on the model and whether they were changed.
