How to Check Battery Health on Android Phones

Android battery health information varies by manufacturer. Some phones provide a dedicated battery-health percentage, while others provide diagnostics, charging information, or battery usage rather than a single health score.

Start with Settings

Open Settings and search for Battery.

Look for Battery health, Battery information, Diagnostics, Device care, or a similar option.

The exact location differs between Android brands and software versions.

Check manufacturer diagnostics

Some manufacturers include a support or device-care application that can test the battery.

Use the built-in diagnostic tool when available because it is designed for that phone.

If your device reports battery condition as good, normal, or degraded, use that information together with your real-world battery life.

Understand battery capacity

Battery health generally refers to how much capacity the battery can hold compared with when it was new.

A phone with reduced capacity may still function normally but require charging more frequently.

Watch for practical signs of wear

Battery aging can show up as shorter runtime, unexpected shutdowns, rapid percentage changes, or reduced performance under certain conditions.

One symptom alone does not prove the battery is failing.

Avoid unreliable battery-health apps

Third-party apps may estimate battery capacity based on charging behavior rather than directly measuring the battery.

They can be useful for trends, but manufacturer diagnostics are preferable when available.

Charging habits

Modern phones manage charging automatically, but heat is still something to avoid.

Do not deliberately expose the phone to excessive heat while charging. Use appropriate chargers and cables.

When service makes sense

If the phone’s battery no longer lasts through normal use or shows serious physical symptoms such as swelling, seek appropriate professional service.

Do not puncture, crush, or attempt to repair a swollen lithium-ion battery yourself.

If your battery health looks fine but it’s still draining quickly, see why your phone battery might be draining so fast. Heavy apps can also affect performance — check which apps are using the most storage on Android.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Android phone show battery health?

No. Battery-health features differ between manufacturers and Android versions.

How do I know if my battery is worn out?

Look at the manufacturer’s battery-health information if available and compare it with actual runtime and charging behavior.

Can an app accurately measure battery health?

Some apps can estimate battery capacity, but their results may not be as reliable as manufacturer diagnostics.
