Social Security Compassionate Allowances List: 314 Conditions, 14 Just Added (2026)

The Social Security Compassionate Allowances list now covers 314 health conditions. So the agency added 14 new ones on August 11, 2026. Here’s what the program does, how it speeds up disability claims, and the full list of what just changed.

Quick Answer: Social Security Compassionate Allowances List

The Social Security Compassionate Allowances (CAL) list fast-tracks disability decisions for people with severe, clear-cut health conditions. So as of August 11, 2026, the list holds 314 conditions. Social Security just added 14 rare diseases, including Aicardi Syndrome and Lafora Disease. Instead, you don’t file a separate form. The system flags your claim on its own once your condition matches the list.

1. What the Compassionate Allowances Program Actually Does

  • It’s a fast lane, not a separate program. A standard disability decision often takes five to six months. Instead, CAL claims can come back in as little as 10 days to a few weeks.
  • No extra paperwork needed. You file the same SSDI or SSI form as everyone else. Then the system moves it to the front of the line if your diagnosis is on the CAL list.
  • The rules to qualify stay the same. CAL does not lower the bar. You still need a condition that stops you from working and is expected to last at least 12 months, or to result in death.
  • Over 1.1 million people have used it. The program has run since 2008. So it’s a proven path, not a new pilot.

2. The 14 Conditions Added on August 11, 2026

Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano announced the update. He said the program “cuts through red tape and allows us to deliver support to individuals who experience life-changing diagnoses and need help fast.” Here are the 14 new conditions:

  1. Adenylosuccinate Lyase Deficiency — Neonatal Form and Type 1
  2. Aicardi Syndrome
  3. Baraitser-Winter Syndrome
  4. Beare-Stevenson Cutis Gyrata Syndrome
  5. Bohring-Opitz Syndrome
  6. CASK-Related Gene Disorders
  7. Hepatosplenic T-Cell Lymphoma
  8. Lafora Disease
  9. Malignant Migrating Partial Seizures of Infancy (MMPSI)
  10. OPHN1 Syndrome
  11. Primary Cardiac Sarcoma
  12. Primary Intracranial Malignant Melanoma
  13. Uveal Melanoma — with Metastases
  14. Warburg Micro Syndrome

3. Why the “314” Number Matters

  • Some guides still say 300. So if you’re reading an older write-up on the Compassionate Allowances list, it may not show this week’s new additions.
  • The math is simple. So 300 conditions before August 11, plus 14 new ones, gives you 314.
  • New conditions get added over time. Social Security reviews and grows this list from time to time. So check the date on any source you read.

4. Categories on the Social Security Compassionate Allowances List

  • Cancers: The biggest group by far. It covers roughly 150 cancer types and stages.
  • Nerve and gene-based disorders: This covers many of this week’s new conditions, like Aicardi Syndrome and CASK-Related Gene Disorders.
  • Heart, blood, and immune conditions: A smaller group, but still on the list. This week’s Primary Cardiac Sarcoma addition falls here.
  • Rare conditions in babies and metabolic disorders: Several new conditions, including Warburg Micro Syndrome, belong here.

Before You Apply Under Compassionate Allowances

  • Check the current list first. This list changes from time to time. Confirm your own diagnosis is still on it before you count on a fast track.
  • File the normal way. Apply online, by phone, or in person, just as you would for regular SSDI or SSI. There is no separate CAL form to fill out.
  • Medical proof still matters. A CAL-listed diagnosis speeds up your decision. But the agency still needs medical records that back it up.
  • Ask about back pay. If you were sick for months before you applied, you may still get paid for that time once you’re approved.

FAQ: Social Security Compassionate Allowances List

How many conditions are on the Compassionate Allowances list?
314, as of August 11, 2026. Also, Social Security just added 14 new rare diseases and syndromes.

What conditions were just added to the list?
Fourteen conditions, including Aicardi Syndrome, Lafora Disease, and Primary Cardiac Sarcoma. Also, see the full list above.

Do I need to apply separately for Compassionate Allowances?
No. Instead, you file a normal SSDI or SSI form. The system flags it on its own if your condition is on the CAL list.

How fast are Compassionate Allowances claims processed?
Much faster than normal claims. Often 10 days to a few weeks, versus five to six months for a typical disability decision.

Does a Compassionate Allowances diagnosis guarantee approval?
No. So it speeds up your decision. But you still need medical records that show your case meets Social Security’s disability rules.
