100 Points of ID in Australia: The Full Document List

Getting 100 points of ID together is simpler than it looks, but different organizations don’t always agree on exact values. Here’s the full document list, where sources disagree, and the fastest way to hit 100 points.

Quick Answer: 100 Points of ID

100 points of ID means combining identity documents until their point values add up to 100. A current passport, birth certificate, or citizenship certificate is worth 70 points on its own, so adding just one 25-point document like a Medicare card usually gets you there fast. A driver’s licence is typically worth 40 points, though a couple of sources list it as high as 60, since exact values can shift depending on which organization is checking.

1. The Full Point Breakdown, Reconciled

  • 70 points — top-tier documents. A current passport, a full birth certificate, or a citizenship certificate. So only one of these counts toward your total.
  • 40 points — strong backup documents. A driver’s licence, learner’s permit, firearms licence, or government worker photo ID. This applies when it’s your first backup document.
  • 25 points — everyday documents. A Medicare card, utility bill, rates notice, bank statement, or debit or credit card.
  • 25 points — extra backup documents. Once you’ve used one document worth 40 points, each extra backup document usually drops to 25 points.

2. Where Sources Actually Disagree

  • The driver’s licence value isn’t fixed everywhere. Some guides list it at 40 points. But at least one source gives it a 40-60 point range instead.
  • There’s no single official list that applies everywhere. So banks, police, and government agencies can each set their own version of the 100-point system.
  • Even an official checklist can ship incomplete. So far, the Australian Federal Police’s own published checklist has a blank column where the point values should be.
  • Always check with the specific group first. So if your bank or agency has its own list, use that one instead of a general guide.

3. The Fastest Way to Reach 100 Points

  • Start with your passport. At 70 points, it does most of the work on its own.
  • Add one 25-point document. A Medicare card or a recent bank statement is usually the quickest way to close the gap.
  • No passport? Use your driver’s licence instead. At roughly 40 points, you’ll still need two more 25-point documents to reach 100.
  • Keep your documents current. So expired IDs, past any grace period, usually won’t count toward your total.

4. Common Document Combinations That Work

  • Passport (70) + Medicare card (25) + bank statement (25) = 120 points. More than enough, with room to spare.
  • Birth certificate (70) + driver’s licence (40) = 110 points. A solid combination if you don’t have a current passport.
  • Driver’s licence (40) + Medicare card (25) + utility bill (25) + bank statement (25) = 115 points. Works well if you have no primary document at all.
  • Citizenship certificate (70) + government employee ID (25) = 95 points. Just short — you’d need one more small document to clear 100.

FAQ: 100 Points of ID

What counts as 100 points of ID in Australia?
A combination of identity documents whose point values add up to 100 or more. Passports and birth certificates are worth 70 points; driver’s licences around 40; everyday documents like Medicare cards around 25.

How many points is a driver’s licence worth?
Most sources say 40 points, though at least one guide lists a 40-60 range. Check with the specific organization requesting your ID if you’re unsure.

Can one document alone reach 100 points?
No single standard document reaches 100 points alone. A passport at 70 points comes closest, so you’ll need at least one more document to close the gap.

Is there one official 100-point list for all of Australia?
No. Different organizations, including banks, police, and government agencies, can each maintain their own version, so values may vary slightly by organization.

What if I don’t have enough documents to reach 100 points?
Contact the organization requesting your ID directly. Many accept alternative documents or provide a reduced-requirement pathway for people with limited documentation.
